30 Lyrical Studies for Trumpet, by Marco Bordogni
transcribed by Logan Place
$19
These vocalises by Marco Bordogni were chosen to help trumpet players of all abilities with lyrical playing. Many of Bordogni’s works have been arranged and transcribed for trumpet and all brass instruments, most famously by Joannès Rochut.
All the dynamic markings and most of the expressive markings have been eliminated. This was done to encourage players to learn to make beautiful music on their own. Many of these vocalises are placed in a more accessible range and key to aspiring trumpet players.
Practicing vocal etudes on trumpet, or any instrument, has numerous benefits. As my graduate trumpet teacher Keith Johnson always told me in a lesson: if you can sing it, play it musically on the mouthpiece, you can play it on the trumpet. Nowhere are the singing and mouthpiece playing more approachable than vocal etudes. These etudes are set out in a progressive manner to allow the player to grow while
working through the book.
I hope that you find these etudes useful and allow you to learn an expressive style.
