Matthew Ramirez is a trombonist and composer from San Antonio, Texas. Currently a student attending Texas Tech University, Matthew is a double major in Music Education and Composition. While at Texas Tech, Matthew has performed as principal trombone with the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, lead trombone in the Jazz I Big Band, principal bass trombone of the University Symphony Orchestra, and has played in multiple chamber ensembles. He also serves as a substitute bass trombone with the Amarillo Symphony Orchestra and the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra.
Matthew’s composition career began in his late years of middle school, where his music was read by his school band in the 8th grade. Matthew then went on to premiere his first work for concert band in his sophomore year of high school. While attending Texas Tech, Matthew has written multiple works for wind ensemble, orchestra, chamber groups, and trombone choir, as well as several small projects for film. In 2022, he premiered his first work for trombone choir at the International Trombone Festival, and was contracted later that year to write music for the Texas Tech University Symphony Orchestra. |
