In the summer of 2010 I was asked by my friend, Mark Lusk, to compose a trombone concerto and the very same week another friend, Burnette Dillon, asked me to write a trumpet concerto!  They both had similar requests - each movement should feature a different instrument within the umbrella of instruments they play.  Burnette and I used to play in orchestras and on recording sessions together in the Los Angeles area so I was very familiar with his playing as well as his sense of humor.
 
Movement 1 –  The Adventure Started Right...About...Here  is for orchestral C trumpet
Movement 2 – A Most Beautiful Place is for flugelhorn
Movement 3 – Travelogue Jam is for piccolo trumpet as well as Bb trumpet, both in a jazzier setting. 
 
All are challenging and fun and, as Burnette's wife says, “a real kick in the pants!”
