In the summer he teaches at Lutheran Summer Music and performs with the Praetorius Brass and Movere Winds. His recording, Baroque Music for Horn and Strings, is available on the Centaur Label. His latest recording of new music for violin, horn and piano was released by Centaur in spring 2019.
He has held positions with the Hong Kong Philharmonic, the Florida Symphony Orchestra, the Cincinnati Ballet and the Philadelphia Orchestra (as acting fourth horn). He has performed with many orchestras including the Milwaukee Symphony, Cincinnati Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony and all of the major orchestras in Florida. Dr. Atwell has appeared as soloist with the Oshkosh Symphony, the Fox Valley Symphony, the Green Bay Symphony, and the St. Petersburg (Russia) Chamber Philharmonic. His interest in composition began when the Fox Valley Symphony asked him to compose a fanfare for four horns to open one of their subscription concerts in 2016. Subsequent compositions included a short string quartet, a work for solo horn, and piano accompaniments for several of the Belloli horn etudes. The Trio for Violin, Horn and Piano was composed in 2017 for his trio with violinist Yuliya Smead and pianist Eli Kalman. |
