Majaliwa, for two horns and piano

by Paul Basler

$12
Majaliwa was commissioned by and written for MirrorImage (Lisa Bontrager and Michelle Stebleton) with support from the Institute for the Arts and Humanistic Studies at the Pennsylvania State University.  Composed in the early fall of 2009, Majaliwa (in Swahili, “God willing, we shall meet again”) is a profoundly sad work that incorporates musical quotes from several of Basler’s most important compositions over the past ten years.  It is the final work in the extensive series that began with the Cancion for solo piano written on July 4, 1999.
