Mica Redden

  • Shenandoah (eight horns)
  • Three Colors (woodwind quintet)
Composer and Horn player, Mica Redden, grew up in the Shenandoah Valley in Winchester, Virginia. They pursued degrees in Horn at Virginia Commonwealth University and at the Indiana University Jacobs School of music. As a performer, Mica enjoys a busy freelancing career performing around the country with orchestras such as the Oregon Symphony, the Richmond Symphony, the Indianapolis Symphony, and the Louisville Orchestra among others, in addition to extensive studio work in Indianapolis. As a composer, Mica draws from a vast pool of lived experiences as a queer, non-binary, Latinx composer, and their music often reflects the sounds of Appalachian folk music with a fusion of Jazz and Latin influences. Mica has written music for organizations such as The Colorado Music Festival and the horns of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Mica studied composition with PQ Phan at Indiana University while pursuing their doctoral degree. Presently, Mica serves as assistant professor of music at DePauw University in Greencastle, IN, and as instructional assistant professor at Illinois State University in Bloomington, Illinois. Apart from Musicking, Mica enjoys quiet time at home reading and baking in the sun like a lizard on a rock with their cats Chicken, Noodle, and Pickle.
