Commissioned by the Hanson Institute for American Music of the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester.  This piece premiered at the 2007 International Trumpet Guild.

“The title for N.O. Rising comes from a newspaper article I recently read detailing the natural and political disaster that befell New Orleans from Hurricane Katrina and the recovery/rebuilding process that will continue for some time.  I wanted to express the diverse cultural and musical heritage that has made this great city so important to America as well as the pain of the situation and the inevitable joy the future will bring.”
