The Trio for Brass (trumpet, horn, trombone) was written in 2014. The three-movement work has a performance duration of 10 minutes.
The first movement, "Fanfare and Chorale", begins with an energetic dotted rhythm that appears throughout the three voices in imitative counterpoint. The Chorale features more linear melodies and is interspersed with the fanfare material.
"Lament" is a slow second movement that uses chained suspensions to express the agony of loss.
"Tango" amps the energy back up for a fun final movement. It utilizes familiar dance rhythms and gives each instrument a chance to shine.
