Dr. Schaffer holds the Bachelor of Music Education degree from Indiana University, a Master of Music in horn performance (Illinois State) and a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree (UNC-Greensboro). His teachers have included Philip Farkas, Michael Hatfield, and Jack Masarie (horn) and Roque Cordero (composition). He has taught in the public schools in both Virginia and Illinois, and currently teaches at Auburn University (Alabama). Dr. Schaffer has remained active as a performer giving recitals and performing with numerous orchestras and chamber ensembles and currently serves as principal horn with Sinfonia Gulf Coast (FL). He is associate professor at Auburn University where he teaches the horn studio, sophomore music theory and ear training, and has numerous publications of both original compositions and historical editions.
