"My job affords me the opportunity to travel all over the country seeing major cities and small town America alike. Much of what I see flashes by as I stare out the windows of a moving bus, but eventually the bus stops and the real adventure begins. To me, there really is no better way to explore a place than on foot. Only on foot does one have the time to fully take in the sights, smells and sounds of a particular locale and to get a sense of what makes it unique. I really do love taking these strolls around places that are new to me. While each of these walks are unique, they do share many things in common. All feature traffic, history and a wide variety of flora and fauna. I have been delighted by bird song and calmed by creeks, rivers or waterfalls. I have met many purring cats and tail wagging dogs, but have also been startled by the unseen dog that erupts in a frenzy of territorial barking towards the stranger beyond the fence. I have tried to capture all the common elements of one of my strolls in this piece with short musical vignettes. Each vignette tells the story of the sights and sounds encountered as I stroll. Vignettes are linked by lighthearted swing sections as the walk continues along with the constantly changing scenery. Therefore, each of these sections differ slightly and often reflect back happily on the prior scene." - Brett Miller
