Matthew C. Haislip is a hornist, teacher, and composer currently residing in Starkville, Mississippi. He is currently Assistant Professor of Horn at Mississippi State University. He performs as Principal Horn of the Starkville/MSU Symphony, Second Horn of the North Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, and Fourth Horn of the Meridian Symphony Orchestra. During the summer months, he teaches at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Twin Lake, Michigan. He is a founding member of Quintasonic Brass, a professional brass quintet comprised of performers and teachers in the Southeastern United States. Prior to coming to Mississippi in 2016, he taught at Washburn University (KS), Calvary University (MO), Hardin-Simmons University (TX), and at McMurry University (TX). He serves the International Horn Society as Mississippi Area Representative and as the Media Reviews Editor for The Horn Call.
He has published articles online and in print through the International Horn Society, and he is a commissioned composer. His duet book, Dueling Fundamentals for Two Horns, is published by Mountain Peak Music, and his etude book, Ten Character Studies for Horn, is published by BrownWood Publishing. Other compositions are published by WaveFront Music and the Online Music Sales of the International Horn Society. Matthew Haislip holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Horn Performance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, the Master of Music degree in Horn Performance from the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music, and the Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Texas A&M University-Commerce. His primary horn teachers include Martin Hackleman, Randy Gardner, Michael Morrow, Elizabeth Freimuth, Thomas Sherwood, and Duane Dugger. His personal website is www.matthaislip.com.
